KMS Connect
FHIR Accelerator for Healthcare

Swiftly and confidently get your FHIR interoperability solutions to market.

Why FHIR Matters

The HL7 FHIR data sharing standard provides the best tool yet to connect healthcare software systems and put personal health information in patients’ hands. And we are hurtling toward fast-approaching FHIR compliance deadlines.

The 21st Century Cures Act and subsequent Centers for Medicare Services (CMS) rules say that everyone must figure out and adopt FHIR, and soon. That includes healthcare technology companies, providers, and payers. How can you get ahead of meeting your FHIR market goals and the rapid compliance timeline with a quality solution?

Well, there’s a ready, plug-in technology that does almost all of the heavy lifting for building FHIR interfaces for you and your customers. Welcome to KMS Connect, the FHIR accelerator for healthcare!

FHIR: A Particular Pain Point for Payers

The payer community faces tight compliance timelines for publishing outward-facing APIs that provide the free exchange of electronic health information to patients.

The 21st Century Cures Act mandates the adoption of FHIR standards for data exchange among healthcare systems and calls for three distinct APIs focused on three specific problems:

Patient Access API
Provider Directory API
Payer-to-Payer API

These APIs all affect payer data access, and all have adoption deadlines for compliance in 2022. Get a huge leap ahead on payer compliance with FHIR Accelerator.

FHIR for Healthcare Interoperability: How & Why

First introduced in 1987 by the non-profit Health Level Seven International and updated often since, the HL7 standard helps healthcare systems flexibly share structured data, which uses a set data model. But that flexibility also introduces inconsistency, which limits its application and slows deployment. FHIR upped the game for healthcare data exchange.
Reduced Integration Effort
Built using HL7, FHIR incorporates more modern API technology, including the RESTful protocol, and a choice of JSON, XML, or RDF for representing data. These web technologies let FHIR developers add new data connections and capabilities (such as analytics, notifications, alerts, and clinical guidance) without a huge integration effort.
Easily Share Data

FHIR also expands the concept of data to recognize healthcare resources. These include elements such as patients, providers, organizations, and devices, as well as clinical concepts such as problems, medications, diagnostics, care plans, and financial issues.

These resources are much easier to understand, organize, and share across different information systems. FHIR can also make sense of unstructured data in EHR and other systems, such as text notes and images.

Building FHIR Interfaces Yourself Remains Complex

We recently asked IT leaders, product managers, and developers from healthcare IT companies where FHIR fits in their product roadmaps. We found a mixed bag of FHIR awareness, understanding, and planning. Many developers in particular expressed gaps in their technical knowledge to build FHIR interfaces.

Develop FHIR Interfaces with KMS

Get There Faster with the FHIR Accelerator

Healthcare IT and software companies have come to KMS Healthcare for custom integrations with EHR and other electronic health information (EHI) systems.

We recognized that these healthcare technology companies all need the same set of core capabilities to develop FHIR interfaces. So we gave it to them (and to you) with the FHIR Accelerator.

Enable > 80% of Your FHIR Interface

The FHIR Accelerator bundles those core capabilities, enabling 80 percent or even 90 percent of your FHIR interface platform. From there, you just need to configure the specific endpoints.

Centralized Data Collection & Integration

Use one single management console to connect to individual endpoints, export data, and monitor activity. The FHIR Accelerator collects data from these endpoints through a consistent API, which your technology team integrates to use the data in your workflows.

Turnkey Solution

The FHIR Accelerator does it all right out of the box. The pre-configured code acts as middleware, using FHIR APIs and RESTful web services for fast, ready connectivity. Plug it in for your fastest, most reliable path to FHIR interoperability and compliance. All with the ability to develop new, additional API connectors as needed.

Start with the FHIR Accelerator to simplify and speed up development and deployment while significantly reducing costs.
